Ah, fantastic! The free plan just became much more usable with a maximum of four projects, and seven active projects is a very reasonable $2.50/month. This is spot on for what I thought the pricing should be, I just hope it allows 14Dayz to propsper and grow. Once again 14Dayz directly addresses user feedback, very nice work!

”I’m not really sure what I want” well, you would be the first of my clients who knew in advance exactly what they wanted. I've been a software engineer for over twenty years now. One thing I have learned is that I can not predict the future. Or perhaps if I can, I'm not very good at it. ;) I've discovered that developing software, like web applications is a learning process, a journey of mutual discovery between client and supplier.
About getting what you want; The Stones said it perfectly: "You can't always get what you want, but if you try, sometimes, you get what you need."
So we are grateful for beta testers like yourself who are willing to share their experiences with us. You provide us with a learning experience about the system under development and that helps us improve our service for each and every customer. And while we cannot give every client what they want, I hope we can give most of them what they need to do effective time tracking with 14Dayz.
We are working on the default project/category thing. If you use the real-time tracker on an empty line, you can already see it using defaults for those. We have plans to extend that along the lines you describe.
As to price concerns, we have very little input on pricing as of now, since we are still in beta testing. All beta testers are eligible for a 50% discount on any one plan of their choice for life. That means you can have a professional plan for only $6 a month and a personal plan for only $2.50. Hosting was not a dominant factor in pricing, so I disagree; you should see our back-up and recovery strategies. ;)
The plans are limited by active projects, and it works a lot like you describe. You can deactivate projects that are finished or on-hold and those do not count towards your plan. You can re-activate projects as needed just as long as you don't exceed your plan. This seems only fair. History is retained until you decide to drop it. Thanks for your remarks!

Cheers, Marko
