Accomplice First Impressions
After installing and watching the [tutorial video](http://www.accomplice.com/tutorials.html) for [Accomplice](http://www.accomplice.com/) I must admit I’m very impressed. I’ve been implementing [David Allen's GTD](http://www.davidco.com/) for over a year now but have been frustrated by the way Outlook worked. As an AVID fan of Pocket PC’s in general and my Axim x50v specifically, ActiveSync’s dependence on Outlook made me dependent as well.
Enter Accomplice, a newly non-beta application most notably demoed at DEMO-06 and now available for free. More fully featured than Outlook with nested tasks, notes, priority, and snoozing, it’s also not a full project management suite either. Accomplice syncs with Outlook, which also means it syncs with ActiveSync. Judging from the tutorial video, Accomplice seems designed with GTD in mind, and I’m literally drooling at the potential improvements in my work-flow. I’m also very nervous at the potential for loosing and mis-translating info between Accomplice and my Axim, which I use constantly. The icing is the collaboration feature, which will sync tasks and notes between Accomplice users. While not very useful for my personal errands and such, this could be priceless for coordinating with both my boss and my junior project team at OIT. (JP=year long software project)
The app seems a little rough around the edges, with a bit too much flicker here and there. (Perhaps they forgot to double-buffer their custom WinForm controls?) Regardless, the potential gains definitely outweigh the risks, here’s hoping to a successful first experience! Actually, even if it tanks I’m gonna keep an eye on this, it’s a GTDer’s dream.
