My Tunes are Back
For several years now I’ve had a dilemma. (Actually several, but lets just talk about one of them, eh?) Probably because I should’ve spent less money on music and more on hard drives, I’ve been in the unpleasant situation of not having room to store all my music. My recent laptop purchase only made matters worse, as it enforced how much I like a light’n'fast mobile lifestyle, and an external hard drive is decidedly NOT light’n'fast’n'mobile. What to do?!?
Wouldn’t it be great if I could just dump all my music online somewhere, and stream or download it at will? No more external drives, no more time-sucking backups, just a remote repository with all my tunage, safe and secure.
As a matter of fact, such solutions have existed for several years, but they were all exorbitantly priced if I wanted to upload my full 40 gigs. Fortunately, times have changed, and mp3tunes.com has started offering free unlimited accounts. $40 a year nets you some non-essential extras, but the freeby account is more than enough to get me listening to all my tunes. Specifically, it…
- Provides a Mac, Linux, or Windows client to upload/download my music
- Provides a web interface to access said music, and stream or download on demand. (This is WAY handier than a simple FTP, WebDAV, or whatever account)
And in the future when I’ve got hard drive space and money to buy music, it…
- Uploads purchased songs directly to your account, without using your hard drive or bandwidth.
- Synchronizes all your music between multiple computers. (Very nice for main machine and home media server, or home and work computers)
So, my point? Mp3tunes.com rocks, and has the best reviews of the market. (Based on my research) It’s also being run by the guy that started mp3.com, which was a really inovative disruptor back in the day. So go get your free account! Unfortunately, it can take a while for free accounts to get upgraded from 1GB to unlimited storage. FORTUNATELY, I happen to have a priority code for the first three people that use it.
Priority Code: f47b681fc477e422

Now, time to get back to some music I’ve been sorely missing… Cheers!
