First Serious Attempt at Portrait Photography

Well, they certainly didn’t turn out as bad as I’d expected, so apparently all those books I’ve been reading have paid off. Although I’ve still got a long way to go until I’m happy with it. Anyway, here’s my first attempt at portrait photography, shot at Bear Creek Park in Medford and downtown Ashland. I really struggled the entire time to find directional light outside, as there were no leaves on the tree’s, though I finally found some at the very end. And while some of the photos at Bear Creek were barely decent, the outfits were really a detraction. For example, the blue undershirt is quite distracting when visible, although none of us noticed it at the time. I guess clothing really is one of the “four pillars”. The part of the experience I found most interesting is that I’ve known both these people for years and am very familiar with them, yet when I really looked at them from a photographic perspective for the first time this weekend I saw them quite differently than I have all these years. Honestly, I was rather surprised. Ah well, I suppose that’s a peril of new undertakings. I’m loving it so far!
